Catalyst T08ether (PreDay: Labs)

Author: kyle | Filed under: Tips & Tools

Me and Andy are attending Catalyst and are freaking excited.  We went to the labs today and had a blast.  We went to the opening session where Aaron Keyes was leading worship.  Wow.  He is amazing.  Then we went to lab one with Dave Ferguson.  I decided every day I would include the people I know that I ran into, funny things I learned at Catalyst, and my notes from the labs.  We only went to 3 of the labs.  Here you go:

Friends I ran into:
-Michael Williams
-Chase Gentez

Funny Things I learned:
-Andy is a pioneer.  I am an astronaut.
-”What are senior adults going to do if they get mad at you?  Email you?  NO!!!” Perry Noble

Lab One: The New Thing (Dave Ferguson) (The New Thing)
*a new church will grow 23 times faster than a church that is 10 or more years old
*a new church has 3-4 times more conversions

4 Church Planting Lessons

  1. The Vision Lesson
    - the “God-thing” comes before the vision
-God is at work right NOW
  2. The Strategy Lesson
-make your strategy fit on a napkin
    -keep it simple
    -if it’s simple, it’s reproducible
-ask yourself what your dream is
  3. The Finance Lesson
    -money always follows vision
    -God is always at work
    -vision is free
  4. The Reproducing Lesson
    -take risks on emerging leaders

The Future is NOW!

Lab 2: A Relook At Calling (Perry Noble)

*Isaiah 49

Questions We Should Ask Ourselves

  1. How much time do I spend listening to God?
-in order to be a good leader, we must be excellent followers of God
    -listen AND hear
-we don’t issue marching orders…we receive them
-God will show us HOW to do things.  all we have to do is follow Him
-in Exodus thru Deuteronomy, these words ring over and over: “God SAID to Moses” (God told Moses was to do, moses was clueless, but he did it)
-in Acts, these words ring over and over: “The Spirit SAID” “The Spirit MOVED” (the apostles were clueless, but they did what God told them to do and the Spirit moved)
*we cannot expect the Spirit to lead publicly if we are not yielded privately
  2. Am I more concerned about being discovered or being developed?
-we can’t enjoy our OWN blessings because we are too busy watching other people’s blessings
  3. Am I believing any lies?
  4. Am I taking risks or playing it safe?
-when you take risks, your pride is on the line and you are open for embarassment
-too many of us give up when we fail
-the greatest leaders fail and then keep taking more risks
-in order to accomplish God sized visions it takes God sized risks
    -we need to dream BIGGER

*there is a difference between a risk and a stupid idea
*****DO A WORK IN ME BEFORE YOU DO A WORK THRU ME*****
